An Important statement from the Chairman of Downers Grove youth Baseball:

Dear Parents,

The safety of all children participating in Downers Grove Youth Baseball has always been the number one priority of the board of directors of DGYB.

On February 14, 2018 the “Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sports Authorization act of 2017” was signed into law and became effective immediately.

We are required to have back ground checks of all managers and coaches which DGYB was already administering.  We will continue to have this program as a requirement to manage and coach for DGYB. We are also required to have a safe sports policy in place, which we have included links on our site.  All volunteers will receive this plan along with educational documentation.

Also, please find the following links on our site: Parents Guide to Child Abuse/Molestation Risk Management Program along with the Abuse/Molestation risk Management Program document.  Before the season begins these programs will be discussed with the coaches and they will sign off that they have received this information.

Regards,

Jim Tremmel

Chairman of the Board of Directors

DGYB COVID-19 May 23rd Update

Thank you for your registration in Downers Grove Youth Baseball, and your patience as we navigate through the Covid-19 pandemic. The health and safety of our DGYB players, adult volunteers, youth umpires, and families is the foremost concern of the Downers Grove Youth Baseball Board of Directors. After careful consideration, the Board has made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Spring/Summer Season for the Instructional, Rookie, and Youth leagues, ages 6-12. The Board determined that the mandated social distancing requirements would be too challenging for these younger players to assure thorough compliance. Social distancing logistics are difficult at the baseball fields that are used for these age groups, and, the use of masks will also be difficult for younger players.  We have not yet made a final determination about the  Babe Ruth League for ages 13-16, while we gather more information from the state, the park district, and other leagues about social distancing compliance for the older players.

Full refunds (potentially minus a processing fee in the $5 range applied by our payment processor) will be issued for the cancelled leagues.  The payment processor estimates that the refund process will take 3 to 4 weeks to complete due to the high volume of youth sport refunds they are processing nationwide.  You do not need to request the refund as this will be automatic.

We are planning on an expanded fall league that may start earlier and end later, depending on restrictions and guidance from state, federal, and local agencies.  We hope to have this league look more like the summer season then traditional fall ball.

While we know this won’t make up for our lost 2020 Spring/Summer season, our goal is to make this expanded late summer/early fall season a more competitive offering than our usual Fall League. Updates on the upcoming Summer/Fall season will be made available on our web site and via email.

 Sincerely,

Downers Grove Youth Baseball Board of Directors

MAY 9th COVID-19 UPDATE

Downers Grove Youth Baseball Community,

At the end of April, we issued an update stating a goal to start baseball activities on June 1st; the reality is, it will not happen by that date.  We are starting to get more guidance on what and if a season can happen and if it does what it will look like.  We are currently working to see what is possible and get additional clarification on the Governors Restore IL Plan, along with awaiting guidance from the Park District as our use of the parks is subject to permits from the Park District.  We are also looking at what it will take for the Park District to have the fields ready, when they do open them up.  We will have a final decision on the 2020 summer DGYB season on Saturday May 23rd.

Sincerely,

Downers Grove Youth Baseball Board of Directors
